New-born
babies are very delicate
and susceptible to environment
around them. Therefore
baby hygiene is very
important.
Important
tips to maintain baby
hygiene:
"
Babies need to be bathed
every day. The bath
water must be lukewarm
to warm
" Take care not
to let soap surds go
into baby's eyes or
mouth
" Their skins are
very sensitive. Therefore
anybody who walks in
from outside should
wash hands before picking
babies up
" The skin around
nappy area, folds under
arms, around neck need
to be cleaned
" The nails need
to be cut regularly.
Because babies make
sudden movements and
also have the habit
of putting their thumb
and fingers in the mouth
" Cottons wools
can be used to clean
only the outer ears
and the nostrils
" Babies need to
be dressed up in clean
washed clothes but don't
overclothe a baby. Just
one or maximum two layers
of clothing is fine
to protect the baby
from catching cold
" If the baby is
ill or feverish, no
need to wrap up blankets
and too many extra clothes.
Babies need to be kept
relatively cool at such
times
" Keep the room
in which the baby is
kept, airy and full
of light..
" Make sure the
room has no damp spots
or that all the bed
sheets and covers are
totally dry
" Generally, try
and not to kiss small
babies too much on the
cheek. Request others
too to avoid kissing
too small babies
" Wash hands thoroughly
with soap before feeding
the child if you have
already started on solids
" Keep a watch
for bowel and bladder
movement. After some
time you will be able
to tune your child into
giving you signal for
pee or potty and you
will also be able to
understand signs when
the movement occurs.
If you start catching
signals, you need not
let child wet the nappy
area for you can make
him answer the call
outside the bed. In
any case, diapers need
to be changed immediately
after toilet. The mattress
underneath should be
always dry and comfortable.
